UMBRA — Tokyo
“UMBRA” received the Tokyo Tokyo Award at the 1minute Projection Mapping Competition / TOKYO LIGHTS 2023 — a study in shadow, reflection and revelation on the competition façade.

“UMBRA” was RESORB’s 2023 entry to the 1minute Projection Mapping Competition at TOKYO LIGHTS, one year after the studio’s Jury Prize there for “MUTATE / EVOLVE” — and received the Tokyo Tokyo Award.
A study in shadow and revelation: faces, textures and architecture surface out of darkness on the competition façade and sink back into it — documented here in the festival cut.
UMBRA is a façade mapping: the content is built to the geometry of the building, so its columns, windows and rooflines carry the image. On the competition façade, a giant face emerges from golden light.
RESORB had taken a prize at an earlier edition of the competition too: the Audience Award in Japan in 2019, for a mapping on the keep of Odawara Castle.
